Chloë G. K. Atkins has a PhD in Political Theory and is currently an Associate Professor of Political Science at the University of Toronto (UTSC). She is also on leave from her position as Associate Professor in the Law and Society Program, Faculty of Arts, University of Calgary. She has held Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada, Fulbright, Clarke, and Killam fellowships.
In 2011, Cornell University Press published her book: My Illness: A Journey of Uncertainty and Prejudice in Medical Diagnosis. The book was well received and won three prizes.
Atkins researches and writes about medical ethics; vulnerability and disability; sexuality and gender; human rights; feminism; legal theory; law; political theory and; self-narrative/memoir.
Currently, Atkins is the primary investigator of a SSHRC funded research program entitled: the the PROUD Project. Through listening to the stories of disabled employees and the people who hire and supervise them, the PROUD Project hopes to create effective policies and guidelines to encourage the employment qualified disabled adults in Canada (and other countries).
